Senator Caleb Rowden (R-19) filed to modify the policy on tuition limitations that adversely affect public institutions of higher education, including the University of Missouri System campuses. The cap currently does not allow public institutions of higher education to raise tuition rates above the Consumer Price Index (CPI). SB 912 states that for public institutions of higher education whose tuition is greater than the average tuition, the percentage change in tuition shall not exceed CPI plus 10%. For institutions whose tuition is less than the average tuition, the dollar increase in tuition shall not exceed CPI plus 10%. The legislation has been first read and is waiting to be second read, then will be referred to a Senate committee.
