The SPMO team values certification by the Project Management Institute and champions the use of the standard tools and techniques PMI promotes. However, in order to best support the unique structure and multiple stakeholders in the university enterprise, the SPMO and project managers from each campus have developed a series of standard templates to assist any manager tasked with facilitating the success of a project. We actively train how to use these templates and the basic principles of project management in a free course entitled, “Introduction to Project Management at UM System” or “IPM.” In addition, we strive to provide consulting services to those working on projects without the assistance of a trained or certified project manager.
